In recognition of the importance of supporting families where children are being raised by their grandparents, Seniors Enquiry Line in partnership with the Queensland Government operates the Time For Grandparents Program.
This statewide service funded by the Department of Seniors, Disability Services and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships is designed to provide the children of these families with fun and interesting activities and give grandparents the opportunity to have some well earned time out.
The Time for Grandparents Program may be able to assist eligible grand families with funding for grandchildren to participate in sporting and recreational activities in their local community. This gives grandchildren an opportunity to participate in regular, fun and interesting activities at minimal or no cost to the grandparents. While the grandchildren are out enjoying themselves it allows for the grandparents to have some well earned time out.
Eligible grandparents may also be able to spend time with their grandchildren on organised Time for Grandparents Grandfamily Camps. Grandfamily Camps provide safe and enjoyable recreational activities for grandchildren, facilitated by suitably qualified and experienced indoor/outdoor instructors, at no cost to grandparents. Grandparents can relax or participate in the activities with their grandchildren.
Grandparents who are the full time primary carers of grandchildren and who are not receiving the fostering allowance and are not approved relative/ kinship carers with the Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs are eligible for the program.
For all enquiries please contact Time for Grandparents on 1300 135 500 from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. All enquires are welcome and confidential. If grandparents are unsure about their eligibility they are encouraged to contact Time for Grandparents.
