Grandchild with Asperges Bundaberg Di May 13, 2008
Hello to All, I was wondering if any grandparents have a 4 year old or similar age child who has asperges (its a form of autism) much like ADD or ADHD. I''m a single grandparent with my 13 year old daughter at home and raising my 4 and 6 year old grandsons and now they boy''s mother (who has a mental disorder and a drug problem) has moved home. I''m currently studying at university and am finding it financially challenging to manage also I don''t get a break. I have full time care of my grandsons through Dept of Child Safety but because I''m not a registered foster carer I''m not entitled to respite care and I don''t get the money that foster carers get. If anyone out there would like to comment please do so. All smiles - I love my grandsons and they are a joy I''d just like a little break occasionally that would be nice. Di

Re:
you should be entitled to kinship care. You will need to ask to be assessed and then you will be entitled to respite care and the allowance that foster care parents receive. I have one granddaughter in my custody which I had to go through the courts to get and she is currently expecting twins and I have told families I would like to be assessed for kinship care because I can''t afford it this time as I gave up my job to look after the first child. They said they will arrange it once the twins are born.
